Think different
This excellent XKCD post illustrates brilliantly the limitations of our epistemologies and how we need exposure to something foreign to be able to ‘think outside the box’, i.e. to make our thinking grow a new dimension.

This is why being exposed to diversity is so crucial to our development as people; this is why the international dimension of scientific collaborations and any other endeavour, enriches it so much. In fact, it is our very capacity to learn to think differently that makes us special.
As the cartoon above shows, this is probably the sort of cognitive earthquake we need before we can imagine other forms of life*.
* not life forms, forms of life.
